Port O’Brien – American Band You Should Know
Rock music with an alt-country twist seems to be all the rage these days in America, but some of it is starting to sound a bit redundant. Good thing there’s Port O’Brien. One wouldn’t expect the string-laden, funky vocal-powered stylings of Port O’Brien emerging from somewhere like Oakland, California, but the five member band (even with a member named Zebedee) is kind of about surprises.
Their latest album, All We Do Is Sing, is half comprised of songs that sound like a dirtier, grittier, countrier version of Straylight Run — keyboards aside, that is. Some of their other songs, like the amazing “I Woke Up Today,” makes it sound like these guys craft their music out of an abandoned hippie barn, but it doesn’t really matter. Their energy is infectious, and by the sounds of it, these guys surely put on a helluva show.
They’re currently on tour, so be sure to catch them if you’re in the right area.
Listen to some of their music at their MySpace or read their blog.
